The meal is part of the experience
Food can become part of a larger story. In Astrid Lindgren’s World, we serve Småland classics so that everyone in the family can appreciate them.
The dishes on our menus have been chosen based on the Småland food tradition and Astrid Lindgren’s stories. We prepare most of the food in our own kitchens with the park’s own chefs.
Småland’s food tradition
When we took the plunge and started cooking all our food from scratch, it was the obvious choice for us to use locally produced ingredients. Partly because we want to offer visitors a genuine and healthy dining experience, but also to support local business and contribute to reducing environmentally harmful transport.

About us
There are about 20 restaurants, cafés and kiosks in the park. Almost 160 people work together to prepare and cook the high-quality food we serve and give our guests a great dining experience.
Crops in the park
Next to one of the park’s restaurants is our kitchen garden. There, our gardeners grow a variety of crops, highlighting the link between ‘soil and table’. Here our chefs harvest rhubarb, beans, asparagus, beets and various spices, according to the growing season. Sometimes, if we have a big harvest, we also have crops for sale.
Meatballs with mashed potatoes
Here in the park, more than 16 tonnes of meatballs are consumed in a season. For us, it is important to ensure the quality and origin of the meat, but also the safety of the production process. Our meatballs are produced at Bjursund’s slaughterhouse, an hour’s drive from Vimmerby. The mince is made using beef from local farms. We only season with salt and pepper and use potatoes to bind the batter.
Almost 1000 litres of pancake batter
Our pancakes are now widely talked about and we have for several years fine-tuned the recipe so that it is really good. No strange additives and of course Swedish eggs in the batter.
We make almost half a million pancakes in one summer in the pancake machine and at the buffet you can choose between our homemade jams and toppings with a cold dollop of cream. This year we also offer our homemade chocolate sauce.
