Rasmus has run away from the orphanage Västerhaga and the strict Miss Hök to try and find himself a new home. He runs along the winding roads, alone in the summer night, and he stops to sleep in a small grey hay barn in a summer meadow. There he meets Paradis-Oskar – ‘the paradise tramp and God’s best friend’, who has taken to the road with this accordion. Rasmus joins him, as he searches for a mother and father of his own. There must be someone who wants a boy with straight, untidy hair?
Rasmus and Paradis-Oskar wander along the roads in Astrid Lindgren’s World from the start of the season and can pop up almost anywhere. The best place to meet them is by Rasmus’s barn, where anyone who wants to can try jumping in the hay in the hayloft, or around Gammelgården and in The Tiny Town where you can join them when they play a little tune with the Tramp Orchestra. For times, see the daily programme or our app.
You can read more about Rasmus and Paradis-Oskar in the book Rasmus and the vagabond/Rasmus and the tramp (1956)
